I have become besotted with 'Hello Kitty'...............a little late in life I know, but hey I'm in a carefree devil-may-care mood and ready to embrace the pinkness and girliness of this sweet little kitty cat. Joining in with ginny's yarn along over at small things once again with this (not so easyfor me), crochet Hello Kitty scarf for Jess.........I am determined that this year I will kick my fear of crochet into touch, and after the success of the crochet hook holder, I felt the need for something a bit more challenging................and my goodness, challenging it has been. I found the tutorial here and just could not resist giving the pattern a go..................it took me four attempts and lots of foot stamping to get the face squares right, no fault of the tutorial, just me being a complete crochet phobic...............I always seem to make it harder than it is!
There is a kitty face at both ends of the scarf, and it was no easier doing the second one than the first, but I got there in the end. The yarns are a mix of cottons and acrylics from my stash and seem to work fine together. Only a few more squares to be made and I'm joining as I go on the final rounds of each square, (I hate sewing them together and find this option so much easier)................then just the border to crochet..........................and victory will be mine!
This past week I've been spending many an idle hour looking at all the lovely colourful kiddies makes in 'Kid's Country' by Susie Lacome, it's a book I've had on my bookshelves for some time, but have yet to attempt any of the patterns.
With Easter on the not too distant horizon, January seemed to race by in a blur, this cute bunny rucksack with dangly carrots and big patch pockets would make a lovely gift for a small child.......................it's hard to resist gingham, spots and bunnies.
And I can imagine this birdie wallhanging on my summerhouse wall (I'm determined that this summer my sewing space at the bottom of the garden will be finished, (do you hear me dearest OH ), and I will need pretty bits and pieces to decorate the walls and make it a happy creative place to hide away with a little sewing and knitting............bliss).
Before I pop over to ginny's to take a peek and see what all you lovely bloggers have been making and reading I have some sad news....................my poor little fujifilm has taken it's last photo and gone to that great camera resting place in the sky, (poking it with a mini screwdriver to try and get it going again didn't help too much methinks), so this may well be the last post from me for a while................but I will still be dropping by all your lovely blogs for a good read and catchup, and hopefully I'll be back soon when I've sold enough stripey dishcloths to buy a replacement, lol....................I will surely miss this little bloggy space of mine though.
love to you all, lily xx
Wow! Loved these little chickens! I am making one item a month...JUST managed January! Bring on February! oops tis here! lol!
ReplyDeleteLily,
ReplyDeleteLoving that book. I really think the bunny sack is so sweet and cute. Looks involved but well worth the time. Love the kitty square it's looks great.
Sorry about your camera, that not good for the blogging world, hope you can get a new one soon. Take care and enjoy your day, xoRobin❤
thanks for your comment on my blog, I think you're right about wearing it with anything but what I have on!!!!
The kitty face is brilliant, there's no way I'd manage to crochet that. The book looks to have some lovely projects in it, those birds are so cute and the bunny bag is wonderful, I bet it would take a while to make though. Sorry to hear about the camera. My first digital camera was a Fuji, I loved it and don't know why I changed to a Canon. I've gone back to a Fuji again now.
ReplyDeleteEaster seems a lot nearer now we are into february and that little bunny bag is adorable.
ReplyDeleteThe hello Kitty scarf is fab it looks very complicated though and my crochet is....well....not great, good for you for giving it a go.
I hope you can get a new camera soon, I have really loved reading your blog.

Oh I love the makes in that book. I'm guessing the rabbits have velcro or something that keep everything in the outside pockets. Neat idea. Your scarf is fabulous and so beyond my crocheting skills.
ReplyDeleteScrewdriver probably wasn't a good idea. Although if it had worked you would have been a technically wizard. Hope you are back soon.
Your never too old for miss hello kitty...and the bunny house is so sweet! Hope your having a good week I couldn't sleep this morning up at 2:30 I'll pay for this later today!
ReplyDeleteThe Kitty looks fab Lily. I do like to indulge the little girl in me by making pretty things for my God-daughter hehe :) You're not the only one! Good luck on the camera front, I look forward to seeing the lovely things you make xx
ReplyDeleteLove the little kitty faces! :)
ReplyDeleteMethinks that the bunny rucksack would also be good for a middle-aged adult too, I love it!!!!
Sorry to hear about your camera, hope you're not gone too long Lily!

Very cute kitty stitch pattern!
ReplyDeleteHi Lily,
ReplyDeleteI just read your post about your camera. I have a friend who has an extra camera and would be willing to send it to you as a gift. The problem is I know nothing about shipping to you and what happens at customs. If you are interested, please leave me a message. I believe it can be shipped via DHL or FedEx.
As my American niece says "I'm missing you already"! Hope you're back soon - love the scarf - I know what you mean about crochet - it spooks me nearly as much as knitted socks - lol!
ReplyDeleteL.x.
I'm a big bunny fan, but that super scarf got my attention, it's fantabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a gorgeous scarf pattern. My crochet phobia is still well inplace so I know I could never even attempt the kitty face. I'm seriously impressed! JX
ReplyDeleteoooo nice book! Oh its sad when he camera dies, but a good excuse to buy a new one :)
ReplyDeleteBesotted - now that's a good word to use. Cute scarf - I don't know how to crochet - hope your daughter likes it.
ReplyDeleteOh what a shame Lily! Can you ask around family members/friends and see if they have any spare ones? We did that when we were stuck and it's surprising how many folks have cameras in their drawers they're not using anymore. Lovely book!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of cuteness! My niece would LOVE the hello kitty scarf. Although I must say that you didn't exactly convince me that I could handle making it. :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Debbie
hello
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe that you say you are scared of crochet and yet produce something as fab as the hello kitty scarf. I would earn many brownie points from my daughter if i could manage something like that. However my journey with crochet ended after much swearing and a thrown hook. Sorry about your camera
That book looks like it's full of adorable projects!
ReplyDeleteHope you are able to replace your camera sooner rather than later so you can continue with blogging.
Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. I'm sure your old machine is capable of machine quilting. If you can get a walking foot for it that would help with it as well. Would it be possible for you to add your email address to your profile? That way I can reply to your comments or queries directly. Thanks for following along too :-)
Hello fellow blogger,

Fortunately you can get some very reasonably priced digital cameras these days. Sorry to hear about camera though - I hope you're not gone long either. Your Hello Kitty crochet is adorable. xx
ReplyDeleteHello Lily...I almost missed your post..I seem to be constantly behind these days!...I love your crochet scarf and well done for persevering...it has been well worth it!
ReplyDeleteThe book looks wonderful but so sorry to hear about your camera...I tend to bond with mine and they are like a good friend...I never want to part with an old one!
Take care and keep warm,
Susan x

I've tagged you, please see my blog for details. I hope you accept. You'll be able to do this without photos.
ReplyDeleteI almost made that scarf at Christmas for my youngest. Stuck with a Hello Kitty hat and purse (which were challenging enough)!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to have a kid obsessed with HK though...helps me become re-obsessed!
